Hello Cambridge,
It’s budget season and I just wanted to pass a quick note on the Village's fiduciary responsibility:
"We appreciate that community members are willing to share their expertise. However, the Village's financial decisions involve much more than accounting. Municipal finance includes budgeting, debt issuance, capital improvement planning, levy limits, utility financing, bond ratings, and compliance with state and federal regulations. Because of that, the Board is inclined to rely on a certified municipal financial advisor such as Ehlers, whose practice is dedicated specifically to local government finance.
This isn't a reflection on any individual resident's qualifications. Rather, it's about ensuring the Village receives advice from professionals who work exclusively in municipal finance, carry the appropriate professional liability coverage, and have extensive experience advising Wisconsin municipalities on the specific legal and financial issues they face.
We welcome input from constituents, but when it comes to recommendations that could affect taxpayers, borrowing, budgeting, or long-term financial planning, the Board has a responsibility to rely on qualified municipal advisors who are accountable for the advice they provide."
