Library Assistant| Part-Time 

Do you love helping people, designing creative content, and being part of a welcoming community space? The Cambridge Community Library is looking for a friendly, creative individual with a passion for customer service and inventive advertising to join our team!

🧭 Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Library Director, this part-time role supports library patrons, performs circulation and clerical tasks, and helps promote library events through engaging newsletters, fliers, and website updates.

Schedule:

  • Mondays: 9:45 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Wednesdays: 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Thursdays: 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Saturday rotation: 8:45 AM – 2:00 PM (at least once a month)
    Wage: $17/hour
    Hours: Average of 15 hours/week
    Benefits: None

📌 Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons of all ages
  • Assist with circulation tasks: check-in/out, registration, fee collection
  • Help patrons locate materials and navigate digital resources
  • Offer basic tech support for devices and library software
  • Create and produce monthly newsletters and event fliers
  • Maintain and update the library’s website
  • Promote library events online and in the community
  • Organize and set up engaging displays throughout the library
  • Support opening and closing procedures

🎓 Qualifications

  • High school diploma or higher
  • Experience in customer service or library work preferred
  • Advertising and marketing experience a plus
  • Proficiency in keyboarding and basic computer operations
  • Familiarity with internet searching and website editing
  • Ability to create and organize newsletters and promotional materials
  • Must be able to work the outlined schedule

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines
  • Capable of working independently and handling varied tasks
  • Willingness to pursue continuing education in relevant areas
  • Working knowledge of library methods and procedures

🏋️ Physical Requirements

  • Bending, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Push/pull carts weighing up to 300–400 lbs
  • Perform tasks involving sitting, standing, walking, climbing, and crouching
  • Fine motor skills for keyboarding, writing, sorting, and shelving
